Security Threats.
Security threats to a business can come from any of the following sources:
Break ins
Vandalism
Employee theft
Customer theft
Health and safety monitoring
Production line malfunctions
Report from Charles Hymas, home affairs editor of The Telegraph,
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal the number of victims who had two or more burglaries in the past year rose from 60,188 to 70,277.
The biggest increase was among those had between two and four, which was up from 49,678 to 62,471, a 26 per cent rise.
Rick Muir, director of the independent Police Foundation, said: “One possible explanation is that organised crime groups have taken notice of the fact that the police response to burglaries has deteriorated.
“They could be doing more burglaries because they think they can get away with it because police are not able to investigate burglaries to the same extent that they used to.”
Only one in 20 burglaries (five per cent) in 2018/19 resulted in an offender being caught and charged, down from 9.3 per cent in 2014/15. In police forces with the lowest rates, there was a one in 30 chance of a burglar being charged.
Security Legislation
Whilst there’s no legislation to comply with regarding security of your business, your insurance company can stipulate certain requirements in order to comply with their conditions. They may for example insist on things from certain doors/locks right through to full CCTV coverage and integrated intruder alarms.
There is legislation to comply with for the use of CCTV systems on commercial premises. CCTV systems are subject to the Data Protection Act 1998. Your CCTV activity needs to be legal, you must inform the Information Commissioner’s Office of your system and you must comply with the requirements of the act.
